CARA's
Story |
Celebrating the
Past...
Looking Forward to
the Future
CARA celebrated its 43th anniverary in 2007.
At CARA's 35th anniversary, the Most. Rev. William B. Friend, Bishop
of Shreveport and Chair of the CARA Board of Directors noted that “it’s
truly awe-inspiring to be part of
an enterprise that has done so much for the Church in what is really so
short a time, and that so often had to do it with so little.”
CARA is a research organization that conducts scientific
studies for
the Catholic Church. It is a not-for-profit corporation listed in The
Official
Catholic Directory whose goal is to deliver high-quality applied
research
or consulting services on Church issues. Members of CARA’s research
team
have advanced degrees in their academic specialties, and all are
committed
Catholics with ministry experience. Their objective is to deliver
practical
answers to real pastoral questions and provide Church policymakers with
the factual basis for informed decisions. CARA’s longstanding policy is
to let research findings stand on their own and never take an advocacy
position or go into areas outside its social science competence.
CARA conducts major studies of Church-wide significance, but much of
its
work is custom designed for individual clients.
These pages present a brief overview of the history of
CARA, as well
as some notable figures who have played a role in its development. A
listing
of present and former board members, board chairs, and executive
directors
is also featured, as well as a selection of some of CARAs work and
clients
since its founding.
