C. Joseph O’Hara, Ph.D.
Joe O’Hara received his Ph.D. in sociology with a concentration in demography from Emory University in Atlanta, Georgia. After graduation, he returned to his home state of Iowa to teach in the Department of Sociology and Social Work at Loras College. In 1991, he left Loras to become a research associate at CARA.
While at Loras, Joe developed a computer program that utilizes mortality rates and other demographic information appropriate for priests in the United States to generate a diocese- specific projection of the number of priests available for service into the future. At CARA, Joe has used this program to generate priest projections for more than half of all U.S. dioceses as well as dozens of religious congregations since 1995.
Joe enjoys sailing and home remodeling when he’s not working on CARA projects.
